Making History Come Alive Lee first gained recognition for his paintings of the Chesapeake Bay watermen when he settled in Annapolis, Maryland in the early 1980s. The watermen, he felt, were a portrayal of living history. He took every opportunity he could to join them on their boats, and, over a fifteen year period, he was able to chronicle their ebbing way of life through his work. In 1995, his interest in history took on a broader scope when he was commissioned to paint three oil murals by the city of Annapolis to commemorate its 300th anniversary as the capital of Maryland. These paintings depict landmark events in the history of Annapolis and are on permanent display at the City Hall. In 2006, Historic London Town commissioned him to paint an oil painting of that colonial site at it appeared in 1683. This painting depicts the importance of London Town as a key trading link on the Chesapeake Bay. Read Testimonial. |
