Lee Boynton is a painter of light: warm, sensuous colors infuse his compositions. His complex, life-long fascination with the sea is reflected in his fluid and powerful renderings of the changing moods of nature along the coast of Maine and on the Chesapeake Bay.

Lee’s passion for painting light was first ignited in the 1980s while studying with Impressionist master Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA. Under Henry’s exacting instruction, Lee learned to use a palette of colors that corresponds to the natural spectrum of light, which he feels increases the artist’s ability to depict the subtle nuances in nature.

Lee first mastered the Impressionist language of color and light using the oil medium in this unique seaside setting known for its rich, luminous quality of light. The Cape Cod School of Art, in existence since 1900, was all about painting that light and carrying on the Impressionist tradition.   more
